Cutting hole in imported file

I imported a file and am trying to make and extruded cut through the object but it just ends up making a cylinder through the object. Is it even possible to make edits on files that have been imported? Or if there something I’m doing wrong. Thanks guys!

You haven’t given us much to go on. Sharing the .skp file would help.

It sounds like the import is a group or component and you haven’t opened it for editing so pushing the circle through it isn’t modifying the geometry. Wild hair guess, though. No guessing required if you give us the SketchUp file to look at.

Heres the skp file hope this helps

So for a model like that, the geometry of the extrusion is nested inside two component levels and your cylinder is outside of the top level component so it won’t interact with the geometry. One level of the component can be exploded. Even if you open the component for editing and try pushing the circle through it won’t cut a hole because the surface isn’t a single face. You could push the cylinder through, select all of the geometry and do an Intersect Faces followed by erasing the unneeded geometry to leave the hole. Actually, for this sort of thing, it would be easiest to first make a solid component of the extrusion and make the cylinder solid as well. Then use Trim or Subtract from the Solid Tools or better, Enroth Solid Tools or Bool Tools 2 to cut the opening.

Drilling extrusions like this is a pain, isn’t it?
