Cutting a curved wedge in two directions

i created a parabola-like curve and want to make a 1” thick solid of it that takes the curve in two dimensions. I can use solid tools to cut one side of it, but can’t figure out how to cut the other edge. I’ve attached my crude attempt. thank you for ideas!

Your cutter volume doesn’t pass all the way through the ‘cuttee’ so the little bit sticking out should be expected.

Don’t be stingy with your cutter length. It doesn’t cost anything to make it longer.

Then Trim or subtract to make the cut.

Are you also wanting to make another cut indicated by your rough line drawn on the last piece? Something like this?

agreed about the stingy part! but can you cut a slice off the curved (left) end of that hunk of cheese to make a 1” thick slice that is curved in both directions? that is my bigger issue. Thank you!

See my post immediately above your last one. Like that?

If so, there’s a couple of options that come to mind. They will yield slightly different results. One option would be to use Move/Copy to move a copy of the cut surface over 1 in. Then use Intersect faces and erase what you need.

The other option would be to copy the end of the first cutter, use Offset to create a new curve at 1 in. Use that to model a new cutter as shown here and use it to trim the piece leaving you with just that sliver.

YES!!! how to do that!

We’ve gotten out of sync. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ok, I’m synced up now! Thanks so much! I’m a little embarrassed because that is very similar to what you are teaching me in the FWW class! But, it takes time and practice to generalize new learnings. Thanks so much!

Please don’t be embarrassed.

And you’re quite welcome.
