I started from scratch and this time it worked fine. Not sure what the issue was , maybe because the text was two separate objects instead of one. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

That could be the issue. It’s certainly different from what I was doing. I was trying to figure out what could be different but didn’t think of separate text objects. I had just copied your text from your post and pasted it into a text box.

FWIW, you could bend the text boxes one at a time if you want separate text boxes.
Hate to bother you, but what’s the best way to load it on sketchup?
Save as a dxf from Inkscape and then import it into SketchUp.
