I am modelling a trophy and the handles wrap around 45 degrees to fix from the top side to bottom front (see green line). How can I achieve modelling this curve?

Normally, learning how to use them, by reading help pages or following tutorials that you can find using search, on Google or Youtube.

A lot depends on the actual shape you want and how shaped the handles are in themselves.
This is another option where you can make the handles as detailed as you want and then twist them into position.
