Creating an editable sketchup file from a 2d hand drawn floor plan

Hi

I need some help with my floor plan conversion. I am looking for someone who can take my hand-drawn plan and replicate it exactly, at the same scale, as a SketchUp 2D floor plan format that I can then edit and render later. i just dont have the time or expericne setting it up from nothing. Please let me know if you or someone you know can do this.

Thanks in advance.

What is your budget?

not sure yet - just putting feelers out to see what the general pricing/ assistance is like

You might want to mention that you are planning to pay somone for their work.

And you could post a file or pdf or screen shot of what you have to start with.

Not to be pedantic, but typically a floor plan is the plan view of a section cut of the walls at the height of 4 feet. Thus, when using paper and pencil one draws what one would “imagine” that section cut to be. But with SketchUp you have the ability to model (in 3D) the walls the way you want them to be … then you extract a 2D floor plan by making a section cut. The difference is significant in that you now design in 3D … and then the 2D documentation (plans, elevations, sections et cetra) is just that … 2D representations of the house/structure as you have designed in 3D.

Having said that … it is still very common for people to start with floor plans … because this enables them to focus on areas … and circulations … et cetera … without having to deal with all of the details associated with a full 3D model of the space.

So, are you trying to get from your hand drawn floor plan … to a professional looking , clean, dimensionally accurate 2D floor plan that you can continue to work with? Is a 2D floor plan the final deliverable? If so, there are any number of 2D floor plan programs that would be easier/faster to use than SketchUp.

But, if you want to go from your hand drawn floor plan … to a dimensionally accurate 3D model that you can continue to work with … and that you can also use to generate floor plans, sections, elevations, photorealistic renderings (you mention renderings), site plans, construction details … and any other 2D documentation you have in mind … then SketchUp is the right tool. And you are in the right place to find people who can help you do that.

One way to generate some interest might be to upload a PDF of your hand drawn floor plan. That would perhaps give folks some insight into the size and complexity of your project.

I do this sort of SketchUp work for clients all over the world … and would be delighted to learn more about your project. I will send you a PM with my contact info.
