I would say that is still the issue, even simplified it is a complex structure. You need to be realistic with the shapes you are trying to produce, and how you are creating the linework. Even when cleaned up with fredos tools there can still be issues in the structure, often .dxf imports can be problematic without an obvious reason for it. Making workable sections can help get you around this sort of thing. Or you could investigate other software.
So in other words; SketchUp is limited in what it can handle, which in turn means it won’t be a hardware problem 99% ot the time (unless it’s about rendering). So I should either look into a simpler texture or spend too much time bending the shape in seperate parts and then clean it all up.
I can live with that answer
thanks
Better hardware can make a difference, but it is not the magic bullet that some people think it is. Understanding and working within the limitations of Sketchup will make for less frustration in your workflow.
You seem to be reading a lot into this that just isn’t true.
Keep in mind that SketchUp isn’t specifically designed to do what you are trying to do with it. The program is capable of handling very complex geometry. In your case, however, I agree with Box that you should probably be looking at some other application that is designed to do what you need.
Hopefully you have a good working model by now, but for your interest, there have been recent fixes in the SketchUp code that solve the crashing problem shown with your model. I can’t give any estimate for when the fix will be present in an update to SketchUp. Whenever that happens I will try to remember to come back and mention it here.
Alas, I never really got this specific model working properly. But it looks like the client will be dropping this project over problems caused by the energy crisis on their end, so that should mean there is no problem left to be solved
.
While this particular thread, and a number of other issues, are a limitation to my workflow… I still think there is no software package out there that fills my needs better. I just have to be more cautious not to try and get something done that SketchUp isn’t actually designed to do… (working with a ludicrus amount of segments for example)
