Copying Layer and Renaming Layer / Object plus using Outliner

Newbie - using Sketchup 2018 Pro. Am an engineer drawing wooded framing for workshop.

I have drawn the framing for a workshop with a Layer name. I would like to copy the existing layout and paste into the same footprint with a second Layer name. This way I can toggle between the layer names and modify either one without redrawing the entire drawing.

I have tried to copy the primary drawing and set up a new layer name but all I get is the perimeter blue lines but no framing.

How do I accomplish this??

From your description it sounds like you might not be using Layers correctly. Can you share the SKP file so we can see exactly what you’ve got? We’ll be able to give you better help.
