WHAT WE DO:
The name of our business is Archways & Ceilings. We make and sell framework kits to home builders to create a variety of ceiling and wall designs for their homes. Essentially, we make a bunch of custom wooden parts, put those parts in a crate, and then ship that crate to a job-site. The framing contractors at the job-site will assemble and fasten the parts together to create the ceiling or wall design, which will then go on to be drywalled and painted. Our products are like big wooden erector sets that create Dome ceilings, Barrel Vaults, Groin Vaults, Cove Ceilings, Cloister Vaults, Range Hoods, and a variety of others, 29 different ceiling and wall designs in all. Nearly all of our products are made custom to the dimensions provided by the homebuilder.

HOW WE CURRENTLY OPERATE:
A home builder will contact us to buy an Oval Dome Ceiling, for example, and supply us with the necessary dimensions. We will then provide them with drawings (made in SketchUp) showing what it would look like. We call these “Approval Drawings”. If they like how the Oval Dome looks, then they can approve it and buy it. If they don’t, then we’ll make the revisions they’ve requested and provide them with the revised drawings. Once they’ve approved the drawings, we will make “Part Drawings” of the Oval Dome showing specific dimensions for each of its parts. We then send these “Part Drawings” to our machinery and fabricators in our wood shop. When it’s finished we crate up all the parts and ship them to the job-site.
WHY WE NEED A PROGRAMMER:
Modeling the framework kits in SketchUp takes time and is fairly repetitive. If we could automate the “Approval Drawings” and “Part Drawings” with SketchUp extensions, it could save us a lot of time and we would be able to show our customers their ceiling and wall designs much faster. We’ve previously hired a free-lance programmer to make SketchUp extensions for three of our framework kits and it turned out fantastic. They’ve since started school full-time and are unable perform any more free-lance work.
