I get this weird pattern on floors and ceilings every once in a while. I would like to solve this issue once and for all. Why do the floor and ceiling of my SkUp drawings sometimes get these strange triangles that cut out and show the inside of the floor or ceiling. See the screen shot. Here it’s happening with my floor. The floor is 2" thick and when I try to have a close up scene it gets skewered.
I see no triangles but “stripes”? almost looks like a shadow line…
Could be a ghraphics thing. Your graphics card is an intergrated one and not recommended for SketchUp. But you could try to update your drivers and see if that helps. Do use the drivers from intel directly, don’t trust Windows with updating them!!
There is a problem where ambient occlusion can leak through things depending on the direction of shadows. Try setting other times in the day, and see if there is a time that then doesn’t show the problem.
If you do reply with an example model I can test to see if any recent fixes we have done will help.
It’s big file. If you go to scene “Foy1a” you will see what I mean when you try to zoom closer towards the door. This has happened in other instances either on the floor or ceiling with different files. But I haven’t figured out why it’s happening yet. I thought I would reach out here in case someone has a solution . See attached WeTransfer link below.
It has happened even before I started using Ambient Occlusion. I thought it might be related to the distance from the axel point. But I don’t think that is the case. It’s frustrating because I want to show a scene from a certain distance and these strange openings in the floor or ceiling appear. I have no idea about the graphics card. Or updating drivers from intel. I’m on a MacBook Pro Apple M1 Pro 16 GB. Sequoia 15.1.1 … I have not updated to the new SkUp software yet. But I don’t think it matter because this issue randomly appears across all the SkUp levels. It’s something I’m doing or not doing?
The file is very heavy but I got no display artifacts. All your scenes looked good. So this might be a display driver problem, or something that only happens with the Mac version.
Your profile seems out of date. You aren’t obviously using SketchUp version 2021. Are you really trying to use SketchUp 2024 on an Intel Mac with integrated graphics?
I didn’t figure out the problem yet, but I reduced the file to 138k, and still can show the problem, even in SketchUp 2021. That rules out new graphics engine, ambient occlusion, and some other things.
You can click the scene tab to start your test again. Try panning, you can pan in any direction, any amount, and the triangles are missing from the floor. If you orbit, or zoom, the floor heals itself.
If you pan you can take the camera well above ground, and the missing piece stays the same. Which I think means that it isn’t to do with the camera position, but may be to do with the camera direction.
Thank you to everyone for attempting to figure out the issue and find a solution. I’ve been working on the file all week. The same problem occurred yesterday when creating a new scene but on the ceiling this time. Although it’s a mystery why this happens it’s a relief to finally have a solution - quick fix. The hidden line works great! Thank you, Colin!
