Categories on 3D Warehouse!

With millions of models and 17 languages, it can be hard to find exactly what you’re looking for on 3D Warehouse. Today, we’re excited to announce the release of Categories!

Categories make it much easier to search and browse for relevant content. For more about categories see our blog post.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated.

How has the content been categorised - by those who uploaded or a warehouse algorithm?

You mention you have a filter for manufacturers, what about a filter for professional designers - or should they include themselves in the manufacturer category?

Glad you like it!

The categorization was done by a combination of machine processing and human moderation.

We’re open to adding new categories, this is just a first pass. What type of professional designers’ content are you thinking about?

Some unique architectural features such as this fireplace.

Also more conventional designs.

How would you like to see models like this categorized, and how would you want them to be presented? (rendered image instead of the model thumbnail, for example)

I’ve been exploring that a bit.

I don’t think it is appropriate to include a render as a scene in the model.

It is valuable to add a few renders as a separate attachment (and some tag descriptions) - this is all existing process which I already use on CG TRADER.

That would be a good starting point - adds class to a designer section. May need a further descriptive adjective as the term designer is sometimes used out of context. Possibly professional concept design - also indicates item has not been manufactured.

Thanks for the feedback. It would be great to have a place for professional designers and modelers to show off their work.

What kind of settings does 3DW currently use for antialiasing and or resolution?

There are a number of processes we run to optimize the images for speed. Is there something you’d like to see?

The first model I uploaded looks to be lower res than some other models - is there any way to optimise while saving models before upload?

Since we’re drifting off-topic here, please PM me to continue the conversation. Thanks!
