Can't Tell Why My Garage Headers Lines Aren't Vanishing

Hi SketchUp community,

I have tried ways to make my garage headers appear smooth without the lines that have stayed on the walls. Can someone help me figure out why my garage headers have these pieces of geometry please?

Thank you,
Damon.

What version of SketchUp are you really using? SketchUp for Schools is a web based version for school children. It is not SketchUp 2021 Pro. Are you actually using a cracked version of SketchUp?

You have quite a lot of poorly formed geometry. You’re missing many faces,

you have a number of tiny misalignments of faces

and a bunch of internal faces.

You could go around and fix these issues but it might be easier and faster to start over. If I were modeling this, I would model the floor as a slab and group that geometry before drawing the walls. I would draw the walls ignoring doors and window. Once the walls are extruded to height, then I would cut the opening in the walls.

Also, you should turn off Length Snapping in Model Info Units. Having it turned on surely contributed to the bad geometry in your model.

Hi Dave,

I’m using SketchUp 2024. Before this happened, everything was fine, but the problem was that my garage headers had been having geometric pieces that wouldn’t go away.

Please straighten out your forum profile.

Again, there’s a lot of misalignment in the geometry. As I wrote, you could fix it but it would take quite a lot. Some “fixes” will likely create other problems. Starting over with clean geometry would be easier and less frustrating I think.

Sorry there isn’t a quick fix for it.

FWIW I traced the floor plan image in your model. It doesn’t appear to be the right size and it doesn’t exactly match your model but take a look. You can see that the floor is separate from the walls and as I described, I ignored the openings. In this case I also skipped the interior walls but they would normally be included.
