Hello, when I save the SketchUp thumbnails on my computer, I only see the SketchUp logo instead of the actual objects. Can anyone help me fix this
Where are these files located?
Your profile shows you are using SketchUp 2024. Presumably you’ve been using it for a while. Did this just start happening?
When you installed SketchUp did you do so correctly? That requires right clicking on the installer and selecting Run as administrator.
I’ve just started creating a library, so this is new to me. I did right-click and select “Run as administrator,” but it still doesn’t work.
The files are in a folder on my computer’s desktop.
The check marks with the icons are strange for files simply saved to your desktop. Is it possible they are actually in One Drive?
No, they are actually on the desktop and not in OneDrive.
The Copilot AI says …
The green check marks in Windows File Explorer indicate that the file or folder is fully synced with OneDrive and available locally on your device.
These icons are part of OneDrive’s Files On-Demand feature, which helps users manage cloud storage and local availability. Here’s how to interpret them:
Meaning of Green Check Marks
- Solid Green Check Mark
- Indicates: The file is stored locally and marked as “Always keep on this device.”
- Implication: It’s fully synced with OneDrive and accessible offline.
- Green Outlined Check Mark
- Indicates: The file is stored in the cloud but has been downloaded temporarily.
- Implication: It’s available locally for now, but Windows may remove it if space is needed.
Why They Appear
- These icons are overlays added by OneDrive (or sometimes Dropbox) to show sync status.
- They help users distinguish between files that are:
- Only in the cloud
- Available offline
- Actively syncing
How to Remove Them (if desired)
If you find them distracting:
- Right-click the file or folder.
- Choose “Free up space” to remove the local copy (removes the solid green check).
- Or go to OneDrive settings and disable Files On-Demand (not recommended unless you want all files stored locally).
For full removal, you’d need to unlink OneDrive or uninstall it, which disables syncing entirely.
