Can't get the colours to consistently display as expected

Hi there! I’m relatively new to SketchUp, but I have done quite a lot of online lessons and think I have a pretty solid understanding of how things work.

It seems like this happens when I use the colour selector, but also not 100% of the time. Certain colours are displaying as expected when I use the color selector, but others don’t. Sometimes the colour populates as white, then when I go back and forth selecting different colours and try again it populates but a lighter version.

I have checked that the faces are oriented the right way, I am working on shaded with textures, no hidden geometry, the faces aren’t deleted… what sometimes also happens is that a geometry will show the right colour is I move it away from the model but as soon as I drag it back it changes.

I am adding a loom video here so you can see what is happening and also sharing the file.

Thank you!

Adding another video with the second related issue

SketchUp is for 3d - and you have flat objects on top of one another… and in 3d modeling these objects in your model currently have no thickness… so you will see the 2 surfaces fighting against each other.

If you want to show the proper color move the furniture and the fixtures up off the floor…

Or use push pull to make them have thickness.

You also need to understand what happens when you apply a material to a group or component, and what happens when you apply materials to faces within a group or component.

Mike hit the nail on the head.

It’s also worth pointing out that you shared the backup copy of your model. Note the ~ at the end of the file name. You need to ensure you are always opening the original copy to work on it or you’ll create a lot of trouble and extra work for yourself.
