Can't customize toolbar with mac M2 mini running Sequoia 15

This is a known issue, yet it’s still occurring in SketchUp 2025. Why hasn’t it been addressed? Users shouldn’t have to comb through forums for solutions to longstanding problems. Uninstalling Selection Toys resolved it, but that extension is essential to my workflow.

SketchUp doesn’t offer this feature, forcing us to rely on extensions. If you’re leaning on third-party tools, own it – ensure they run smoothly or build native alternatives. You can’t say “use the extension” when things work, then shrug “not our fault” when they break. It’s been nearly a year since this was reported.

pretty sure it’s in the user agreement you accepted the first time you went to the warehouse. something like “welp, if the plugin crashes or doesn’t play well with SU, it’s not on us”

Also, you’ll find this is the only thread in over a year about this specific issue, and apparently it doesn’t work well with a couple of plugins, and some specific mac os versions.
Mentioned elsewhere on the forum is the new mac interface coming later (probably next version?). it’ll adapt the pc UI on mac. your troubles will be over.

@colin and @Barry I managed to recreate the crash mentioned by niknelb :
install / turn on selection tools, then right click on the topbar, and once it start giggling, click on a spacer.
Crash #36587

weird, it didn’t bug out in 15.4, I managed to change my topbar last month despite having selection toys activated. But in 15.5 it bugs again.

I couldn’t find an existing bug report about this, but I was able to make a crash happen when doing steps like ateliernab had done. I made a new bug report, SU-60243 in our system.

I’ve had this issue since 2024 and didn’t report it – my mistake. Still, veteran SketchUp users know many bugs stick around for years, so maybe we need to be more persistent in pushing for fixes. I only found this thread today, and honestly, it’s frustrating to have to dig so hard for answers.
If SketchUp presents itself as a flexible, extension-driven platform, deflecting concerns with “you agreed to the User Agreement” just doesn’t cut it.
No hate here – just genuine frustration. Props to the person who found the workaround. SketchUp team: please fix this.

I did try 2024, and that seemed not to have the problem.

Yes, you’re right – the issue disappeared after one of the updates to the 2024 version, though I can’t recall which. Unfortunately, it’s back in SU 2025 (25.0.659.) I’m running it on a MacBook Pro M3 Max with an external monitor, macOS Sequoia 15.5.

I am having problems with the Customize Toolbar feature right now. As I right-click on the toolbar it starts wobbling and the icons to be placed there do not appear. Clicking on the toolbar crashed Sketchup. After that happened, the position of the icons was changed: now they are spaced from side to side, occupying the entire length of the screen. More importantly, the toolbar becomes disfunctional: clicking on any icon does nothing. The only way out is to close Sketchup.

I am on Mac OS Sequoia (latest build), Mac Mini M4.

do you have the plugin Selection Toys active ?

if so, as noted above, turn it off and it works again.
if not, then you have another plugin that causes the exact same bug.

Yes, I do but it is not what is causing the problem. I disabled it and the problem persisted.

Did you try restarting Sketchup after disabling the extension?

Yes. I always do it when installing or uninstalling something.
