Cannot select rectangle after selecting text

See screencast. When 3D text is selected, I cannot select rectangle.
This happened after selecting everything (except the human figure) and deleting it (I don’t think this has anything to do with it though, just trying to give as much information as possible).
Chrome Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Ubuntu Linux.

To be complete: 3D text gets automatically selected (after returning from another tab in Chrome to the Sketchup tab, but not always). Once that happens, I have to restart Sketchup (refresh te tab), or I can’t draw rectangles.
And it also happens in Chrome on Windows.

So not about selected entities, but when “3D Text” is the active tool, one cannot activate the “Rectangle Tool”.

That is interesting, although I can’t reproduce it (also on Ubuntu). I believe the 3D Text tool is not supposed to stay an activated tool. For me, after inserting a 3D text object the Move tool is activated (to move it), and in the Polygon category the previous non-3D-Text tool stays selected.

It sounds rather like you maneuvered it into an invalid application state (independent from OS, browser or WebGL). Can you reproduce the exact sequence of tools that you selected? How did you switch browser tabs, keyboard shortcut or pointer?

I’m having the exact same problem. I’m also on Ubuntu. My system information:

Kernel : Linux 4.10.0-38-generic (x86_64)
Distribution : Ubuntu 17.04
Processor : 4x Intel(R) Core™ i3-3227U CPU @ 1.90GHz
Operating System : Ubuntu 17.04
OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH

I switch tabs using the mouse pointer.

I’ll try to keep an eye on what happens exactly and report back if/when I have more info.

It doesn’t seem to be OS-related, I have experienced it in Ubuntu and in Windows.

I also have a few add-ons active (uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Extra, Privacy Badger would be the most liable to interfere). I’ll try to find out if these have any influence.

Update: it’s not related to switching tabs, it just happened while staying on the same tab. I was going back and forth between pencil and move (drawing lines and moving the endpoints), also selecting views, and when I wanted to draw a circle, I noticed that the text tool was selected (which I definitely didn’t do).
I also was messing around with constraints (arrow keys) while moving, which I’m not really familiar with.

Ublock Origin add-on has been disabled, and Privacy Badger add-on lets everything through, except cookies from google.com.

The real problem BTW is not so much that the text tool is selected, but rather that once selected, it’s impossible to select rectangle, circle etc.

This is a REAL issue. I have 20 students in a class that are ALL experiencing this problem. Mixture of Macs, Chromebooks, and PC’s. I haven’t figured out a solution yet - other than closing out the window and reopening it. Very frustrating.

Just experienced this tonight.
Suddenly 3d Text was selected. I click on it to select the square and the 3d Text pop up comes up and I can’t select any other options under that section.

Ubuntu w/chrome.

We’ve had a few users experience this and we’re looking into it. For now, you can press the “R” key and it should revert you back to the rectangle tool.

I’m on Mac OS X, using the free version. I had the same issue. At first I was reloading the browser, but Caroline’s suggestion to type “R” (or “C” for circle) works for me. In fact, I’ve switched to using all the shortcut keys as it’s much faster.
