Can not intersect two objects

I am trying to get intersection ot these two objects

After positioning them one over other

I have selected faces to intersect

and applied “Intersection with context”.

Then I got lines of intersection

And now I expect, that selecting this area will select only part ot edge “below” the blue line.

But lookng from face side I see that the edge entirely is selected.

What I am doing wrong, and how to fix it?

If you made them solid you could use the solid tools to give you the intersected shape.
