Can Custom Styles be imbedded in a Custom template?

Hi there,

I am trying to create a custom template for my office that will have the units we want but more importantly will have the custom styles we have created imbedded into it rather than having each employee have to load the custom template and the custom styles separately. I followed the steps provided below but when I open SketchUp, and select the template, the styles are not there. Does every person still have to save the custom styles and the custom templates into their “styles” and “templates” folders on their own computers see below screen grab.

Making a Custom Template

If the default templates just aren’t the right fit, you can customize them and save them as a custom file. If you’re always making the same change or set of changes after creating a new model, customizing a template is the best way to save those changes for the next model you work on.

To create a custom template:

  1. Create a new SketchUp file with your current default template.
  2. Make only the modifications that you want to save with the template. Templates include all the settings in the Model Info dialog box, Style settings, and Shadow settings. You can also create any base geometry.
  3. Select File > Save As Template.
  4. Navigate to the location where you want to save your template.
  5. Give the template a name.
  6. Click the Save button.

Thank you!

You can add the styles to a template but they have to be included In Model. When you set up the template, go through the styles and select the ones you want to add them to the template. They will remain as part of the template unless they are purged by the user.

Keep in mind that a SketchUp template is just a SketchUp model file. It is not looking at folders with collections of stuff like styles or components. Anything you want included in the template has to be In Model.

Edit: My preferred way of doing this would be to avoid bloating the template file and instead give each user a folder of the specific styles which they add to their Styles files. This can be done easily by creating a SketchUp file with those styles included in model. The user can then use Save collection as … to save them on their computer.
