Hi All, Can anyone propose software to convert a JPG to a SKP. I’ve tried quite a number of packages but the quality of the output SKP file is not accurate.
thanks.

What exactly do you mean by converting a JPG to SKP? What software did you use for this?
I’m trying to convert a JPG image to a SKP file with AI software. Hope this makes sense…
Perfect timing
Do you want to vectorize a 2D plan, generate a 3D model or something else?
Hi Mihai, I sell office furniture and have been using SKP to do models of office desks only. I am not so clued up with the technology, so please bear with me. I was looking for AI software to convert a picture JPG (see attached) into an editable SKP file. I’ve come across some AI packages but the conversion to an editable SKP file is not accurate enough. I guess AI still have to develop to be able to do the above.
Now that you’ve shown what you want to do, the most accurate model you can get is one you model using Match Photo, in SketchUp.
yeah, I guess you can’t ask a predictive image identification tool to do a designer’s job…
Thanks, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for your time and help!
plus, you’ll be doing every user of your 3d models a service.
AI-made models are a nightmare. they are full of tiny faces everywhere, nothing is 100% straight, and doing a simple modification can be a pain.
when companies provide AI-models, or models made in another software and poorly ported, they ask their clients to bear the charge of the heavy model.
Doing it by hand allows you to provide a clean and simple model, flat faces, low poly, and you set the level of detail you want.
a bit more work on your end, but it’s not a burden for your clients.
I agree. Will model it is Sketchup.
Hi,
We’d love to dive deeper into this topic with anyone interested. Just let me know, and I’ll be happy to arrange a call with our Product Manager and Engineering team.
Best,

What you said! Exactly.
As a SketchUp user I used to be frustrated by the lack of direct CAD support in the form of 3D product models from various vendors.
Apart from DXF/DWG, most appear to have hitched their wagon to Revit as the “industry standard”. Some do produce models in other 3D formats but 9 times out of 10, they are really poor quality conversions from (presumably) AutoCAD that are not fit for purpose.
I originally had high hopes for Revit and the SketchUp Revit importer but, having seen the “quality” of the CAD data from many manufacturers (Revit or otherwise), I am less bothered than I was, because I’ve realised that I’m not missing much.
I have reverted to previous practice of creating my own versions of specific products natively in SketchUp using dimensions from the DXF/DWG drawings. Its more work up front, but re-pays for all the reasons you cited; model re-usability, render quality, and lightweight/speedy model files.
