Automatic account logout from Sketchup for school

Hi, I’m an architecture teacher and I teach about 30 students using SketchUp for Schools. The software is integrated into the school’s Google Workspace, which teachers and students access with the school account. Let me start by saying that we have been using your system for three years and have never had any problems. My students all encountered the same problem both in the laboratory notebooks and in their personal PCs; Furthermore, it comes with both a LAN and WiFi connection (on different networks and even when trying from home). Students have reported, since the first day of use in September, that SketchUp does not allow them to save the developed model (even if the .skp file has already been created on the drive), after about an hour of use, with consequent loss of Work. The problem occurred on various browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge. After we carried out the appropriate checks on the network and computer systems, with the school technicians, we discovered that SketchUp performs an automatic (and unsolicited) logout by the user) of the account; in practice the students continue to work on their 3D models as if they did not have permission to do so, but the software only warns them of this when saving, preventing them from doing so. Only if a new SketchUp for Schools web page is opened, and the program asks the user to log in (without a password because it has already been entered at the beginning of the work session), is it possible to save the model in progress, returning to the previous page. The problem I am explaining to you has become daily.
I kindly ask for support.
Matteo

PS: I apologize for the grammar of the text, which I translated from Italian with Google Translate!

Thanks for the posts @Prof.C and thanks for the @ to get my attention tweenulzeven. It sounds like you are experiencing a common issue that we are aware of already. For now, the best way to avoid it is to refresh the page roughly every 45 minutes. We are working on a better solution but I don’t know when we will have the fix ready for worldwide rollout. Hopefully the development team finishes the fix soon and we can roll it out as soon as it is done.

Thank you for your reply. I was afraid it was something more complicated than usual, and that’s why I asked for information. We will continue to work in class, following the advice you gave us. We hope you can solve the problem quickly :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

As a best practice, please have your students go settings and turn on the Autosave, I have it auto save at 2 or 3 minutes.

@marwanobeidat thank you for the advice. I didn’t know you could change the autosave timing. It will be my responsibility to educate my students on the possibility offered.
