AutoCAD Block import to Sketchup Component

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me.

I am planning on setting up all my sketchup and autocad library components with the same name so that when I import Autocad Plans into sketchup, all the blocks will be converted into the Sketchup Components, this would save me hours of work.

However whenever I attempt this, SketchUp will add a #1 to the end of the autocad block to prevent the exact thing I want.

Kind Regards

I don’t know exactly what is going on here, but in principle this happens when the model you are importing into already has a component with the same name.

Yes, this is what I am wanting to avoid.

Rather than adding the #1, I’d rather have an AutoCAD Block with a name “Chair” change into the SketchUp model’s Component “Chair”, pretty much converting a 2D Block into a 3D Component.

hello,
What you want to get can’t be automatically done.
Sketchup won’t “swap” your 2D autocad blocks into 3D components you previously made, you’ll have to select them first (by right clicking on one of them, select > all instances - or through the component panel) and replace selected (through the component panel) - tell me if you don’t know how to I’d explain further

There also are component replacement plugins to speed up the task, such as eneroth component replacer or thomthom component replacer

Another solution would be having the 3d model on a hidden layer in your autocad file that will then be automatically imported in sketchup, but It might make your dwgs heavy
