AR model not attaching to wall surface

Having trouble with the AR viewer from 3D warehouse. I am designing a 20’ sign that I want to project on to a building. My models don’t want to “stick” to walls. It seems like they want to float in space vs clinging to a flat surface. I am assuming this is something I am doing that is procedural or in my native artwork but I cant figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Since the sign is so large I also made a smaller version to see if I could get it to work on walls in my office, but I run into the same issue where the sign wont let me move it.

It would help if you shared the file with us. Likely the issue is that you’ve got a component that has the Always Face Camera property set.

Are you still using SketchUp 2019 as your profile shows?

Hi Dave, Thanks for reaching out. I am running Version 23.1.341. I apologize as I am not very versed on Warehouse. Will this link work?

Please update your forum profile.

Any reason you are still using 2023?

No. That doesn’t work.

What exactly happens when you try to view it? The model geometry is located at a great distance from the component’s origin. Is there a reason for that?

sure thing it is called “small model”. this is roughly a 60" wide version that I was trying to stick on walls in my office

it kept sticking to the floor and then disappearing so i tried moving up on the blue axis thinking that might help. I will also update and fix my profile

The component’s origin is its insertion point. It’s placed about 1.6 feet behind and about 24 feet below the geometry.

If you want to insert it so it appears to be on the wall in your office, put the origin at the back of the component instead.

ok thanks I will give that a try. i also dont think i made it a component but i will do that as well.

You should have. It does download as a component from the 3D Warehouse, though.

Here I’ve placed the component’s origin centered on the back of the component.

By the way, you should also fix the incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created AND remain untagged.

Thanks. I will work on this and report back.

I was able to create a new model ( NFOC TEST 050325) and I believe i have the coordinate and origin set correctly and also I also believe everthing is untagged, and it seems a little better but I am still having the trouble of controlling it. For example, it will place in front of a wall but it will sit away from the wall. When i try to move it back to rest on the wall it will spin to a perpendicular axis. Here are pics of how far it sits off the wall.

it acts like there is a force field that keeps it away from the wall i want it to rest on if that makes any sense.

It does look like the AR wants to place things on the ground. I tried a work around, and it seemed successful. I put something on the ground in the model, and then placed that on the ground in front of the wall I wanted to sign to appear in front of. The sign was then completely fixed in the right position on the wall.

Ok thanks, the actual sign will be going about 20’ in the air so do i need to have the sign 20’ above the item i keep on the ground?

I didn’t try that much above ground, but it ought to work.

Here’s a quick test:

thanks for the visual. i did a scale mockup with a rectangle on the xy and it worked good in my test
