It doesn’t matter to 2017 & 2018 users. It matters when the 19.2 version is many years old and folks are still using it under a perpetual license.
Oh, I see!
Interesting. Does your provider charge you a flat fee each year for access, or do they also charge per use? In other words, do you get charged something every time a user uses this feature? (If you’re at liberty to say.)
Will these updates be coming to the SU 2019 Classic license version?
At least one of the features “large area” Add Location is not. I assume the others are on the Classic license, if you read the top post.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but this “large area” feature of 2019 M2 is the first difference that has appeared for the downloaded version of Pro that depends on the type of license you have (Pro Subscription vs Classic). Am I correct?
there are a $250 of extras ‘bundled’ with Pro Subscription since day one…

I’m not at liberty to say. I will say that contracts change every year so at a minimum we have to assume costs will increase.
Add location is more of a “service” than a feature. It can’t be used without an internet connection so it’s much closer to Trimble Connect than say the Solid Tools. So I would compare this to how Classic users can leverage a free Connect Personal account where as subscription holders receive Connect for Business.
I just watched Matt Donleys video with the updates review and can honestly say I am very impressed with the way it’s going. Finally seeing some things I have been requesting for the last few years applied. I do however have a Question/comment. I have the maintenance subscription and have 2019.1 installed - when I click ‘Check for updates’ however it tells me I have the latest version. (Updates are in 2019.2 so clearly not).
What gives??
I still fail to see how this cannot be rolled out to users on a ‘classic’ license that are current with their maintenance fee. Surely Trimble has the data attached to the license applied to whichever version someone is running to see if they are ‘current’ with their maintenance fee. If my license indicates I am a paid up member - why do I not have ALL of the features that you are able to roll out to someone that is on the subscription model.
The mention of ‘Our most loyal’ customers, surely includes those of us that purchased the program way back when and then signed up for the maintenance fee upon its introduction and paid it each year thereafter. What differentiates the install of the program on Subcription that allows Trimble to provide access to the holders of those licenses?
I agree! How can Trimble not know who has a current license and maintenance subscription? I’m pretty sure I get an email every time it’s due for renewal…
Hi Craigcampbell 66,
Classic license holders do get the 2019.2 update. In fact everyone who has 2019 and is successfully using it should be able to use the new version.
We trigger the in-app update notification a few days after our public announcements in order to ensure everything is going smoothly. So we suggest manually downloading the new version to get it immediately.
We hope you enjoy the new updates, and we are excited to be releasing new features in the middle of the year.
The add location feature is a web page. Try it now in 2017 or 2018, and you’ll get the new fancy controls.
I think the question was more about allowing M&S current users to be able to use the large area import feature. Bryce answered that, by saying that a perpetual licensed version only knows that it’s a valid license, there isn’t a way to know if it also is under support at the moment.
Now I’m confused. From the discussion I thought the new add Location features required a subscription and SU Pro 2019.2.
“Large Area Imports” are a locked feature in the new Get Location web page that everyone sees…
it uses your ‘Pro Subscription’ key to unlock the feature, no key == no feature…

It does seem that 2019.1 doesn’t expose the new option. The new tools are available to everyone, and just the larger area feature needs 2019.2, as well as being signed into a subscription account.
Is this announcement ONLY for Subscription users? As for most loyal customers, why am I excluded from that definition simply because I have been on the maintenance plan since version 6? What gives? I just downloaded and installed Sketchup and now it says I am currently running release 19.2.222. Is This the new 19.2? If so why did sketchup say I was using the most current version prior to me manually downloading and installing this version? I mean good grief, how long do you have to be using your product before you are considered “loyal”? Is it just all about the subscription? I’m feeling like I’m going to be left in the dirt after all these years advertising your product for free!
Is this update available in French?
I downloaded the French version from
… /download/all
and re open it and it is still the 2019.1 on my mac
What I’m doing wrong?
