The Live Door Components in the SketchUp Library section of the Component Warehouse are really very nice … and can save a designer an enormous amount of time. But there are two additions that might them even more useful … when a SketchUp model is imported into LayOut.
-
Including a “door swing” at the base of the door would make the Live Component more useful to those who use LayOut to create 2D documentation of their designs. This way, once a door is placed in the model, the door swing would show up when the camera is set to “Parallel Projection” and “Top” … i.e. floorplans. But the “door swing” would also need a separate tag … so that it could be turned on in plan view … and off in perspective/isometric views.

The Live Components already include the ability to set the “Opening (deg)” … which is also very nice. But since doors are typically shown open in plans and closed in elevations (and sections) … to make these Live Component more useful to those who use LayOut to create 2D documentation of their designs, it might be helpful to have the ability to save each door model with two states, each with its own tag … open (for plans) … closed (for elevations).
With these two additions to the Live Door Components once a door is “configured” and placed in the SketchUp model … and the “Tags” are setup properly for each “Scene” … the model is ready for use in LayOut.
