Please update and correct your forum profile, too. Put in the SketchUp subscription type and SketchUp version. Update the operating system if you are no longer using Win 10 and put in the graphics card make and model number. “intelcore i7 6700” does not identify a graphics card. It’s a whole lot easier to give you assistance if the information in your profile is current and correct.
If with that you mean you can also work on them in SketchUp 2018 after working on them in SketchUp 2026, the short answer is no. Trimble removed the ability to save as an older version a few years ago.
But there are a few ways around that. There is an extension that can open models made in a newer version:
And an extension that allows you to save as an older version:
Thank you for the information. I am aware of those versioning limitations; I simply meant that I plan to begin working in SketchUp 2026 moving forward.
I appreciate the recommendations and will definitely look into the extensions you suggested.
You should have no problems then. All versions of SketchUp are backwards compatible.
You can leave SketchUp 2018 installed untill you are comfortable with 2026 and have made sure that all your extensions and workflows are compatible with the new version.
Every major update installs as a separate program and can be used beside each other.
One thing to note, 2026 will/should become the default version, so a double click on a 2018 file will open in 2026. If you want to use 2018 open it first then load the file you want.
nice to hear that move, it should help going from 2018-2026.
New question: I’m considering buying a new laptop today to run Sketchup 2026. This is the model I’m considering. Will it be possible to move or “redownload” Sketchup 2026 to a new more powerful laptop?
I have downloaded my 2026 version to an external drive currently on my existing laptop. I don’t have the experience to know if this is possible. Or is there another way to transfer it to a new laptop?
ps. I am still the only user of my purchase. Thanks again for your help. Brad
