Hi, I need some advice on how to add sidewalks on steep and complex roads (pls see images). The sidewalks should be offset inwards 2 meters from both sides of the road edge and then extruded about 20cm. Is there an extension/method to do this efficiently? I’d appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks.
Maybe isolate the edge from the surface, weld it, offset that and use fredo’s curviloft to generate a new surface jointpushpull to extrude your new surface 200mm.. nup that doesn’t work.. can’t offset just a non-planer welded line with native tool..
You could do it if you flattened the linework… if you are doing complex roads and terrains you really need VALIARCHITECTS road tool.. it is amazingly good at this..
example of masterplan in Vietnam with complex paths and roads done with that plugin !
all the roads are setout on a 2d surface and the tool projects them down onto the terrain and calculates the batters and cut slopes.. it is a very impressive extension well worth the money !
Thanks for the reply. Have you tried adding road sidewalks / curbs on this type of rolling terrain using your plugin?
With native tools (Sandbox > Drape and Offset) and Fredo JPP
Thank you, that is the first time i see drape from bottom to above.. ![]()
You’re welcome!
With QuadFace Tools > Offset Loop and Fredo JPP
It can also be made with Fredo Curviloft and Fredo JPP.
Cool! Thanks!
I saw a video someone use vertex tool - make planar to make roads flat. It works most of the time. You should use it before seperating the roads from terrain of course.
Yes, it is easier and faster if you use Vertex Tools instead of Drape, but for this case I thought it would be more useful to show the basic technique and use of the native tools. In general, for landscape it is easier with extensions like Vertex Tools or Artisan.
No need to use all features of vertex tool, selecting road surface and clicking on the make planar button helps keeping near vertexes balanced, after drape..
