Today I loaded up SketchUp 2025 to geolocate a model I am going to be working on. But I noticed that the add location tool was missing from my tool bar. When I right clicked to re add it it was missing.
Also when I loaded up I was shown errors with other extensions I use.
After some research I tried going to the model info tab to try and geolocate there but I got the following error “Please go to Extensions > Extension Manager to re-enable Add Location”
Going to the extension warehouse the only option for Add Location is for 2024, which it does say is for version 2024 and newer.
But when I go to install this plugin again I am greeted with this error
So instead I went to try and do the same project in 2024 but I have similar issues. The add location tool is missing, it says I need to install the extension. When I tried this I didn’t get the error like I did in 2025 but even though it said it installed correctly the extension is still missing.
Does any one know what is happening with the add location extension? Do I need to reinstall SketchUp to get it back or was there and update that removed it temporarily?
The Extension Manager is a local interface to control installed extensions. (Turn them ON or OFF. Update them or Uninstall them.)
The Extension Warehouse is an internet (cloud) interface with extensions you can search for and choose to install.
ALWAYS, check FIRST if you have a newer version than what is advertised on the Warehouse. Sometimes new SketchUp versions come “out of the box” with newer versions than what is on the Warehouse. (The Warehouse has been “dumb” for many years and will overwrite newer versions with older versions.)
Not an error. It is only a warning and usually does not mean much other than someone (the developer) has not yet verified it still operates in a newer version, or has not has the time to update the warehouse page with a new version.
Since the Add Location was redeveloped as a web extension (at the time SU24 was released,) it basically gets updated several times a year with new features so you can usually be sure than the latest version works with the latest version of SketchUp.
So go into the manager and switch it back ON, you might need to restart SketchUp.
It is there but not loaded correctly. The extension registrar file is named "habitat_site_context.rb".
This is one of the distributed extension that come with SketchUp.
When you installed SketchUp, did you download the offline installer, then right-click it and choose “Run as administrator”? If not, restart machine to clear out memory before running the installer.
Also, do not manually copy over an old Add Location extension from a pre-2024 SketchUp edition (or any version really.) If you did it would definitely need to be manually deleted (as usually the latest comes distributed with SketchUp.)
You can close SketchUp, then go to:
%AppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025/SketchUp/Plugins
and delete the "habitat_site_context.rb" file and "habitat_site_context" subfolder,
then restart SketchUp and the distributed version 1.7.3 will be redeployed to your plugins folder.
Then go into the manager and see if it is properly listed as “Add Location” with the other extension properties if you expand the card. (I.e., it should not just read as the name of the registrar file.) Switch it ON if able.
Then restart SketchUp.
The version on the warehouse is at least version 1.7.8. The Manager should popup a window in the lower right saying at least one extension has an update. You can then go through the Manager (not the Warehouse) to update it.
Once in the manager, click the Manage tab, and you should see an emboldened Update for the Add Location extension. Click it and let it update. When it does, close the manager and restart SketchUp.
