This may be a really silly question - I’ve drawn up a 2D floorplan for my bathroom remodel. I downloaded 2D bathroom symbols to lay it all out. How do I go about creating the elevation using the same 2D symbols? I cannot find any downloads of 2D bathroom elements in their “elevation” format. How do I go about this?
If you are using 2D plan symbols for the fixtures, they won’t make much sense for an elevation view. If I were doing the model you describe I would use 3D components for the fixtures so I could show them in both plan and elevation views as well as perspective views.
Remember, SketchUp is a 3D modeling application. Don’t think about your project in 2D.
Although @DaveR makes perfect sense (as always), there are ways to do what you ask. Some manufacturers do provide 2D plans, side, and front elevations of their products. Often they will be in importable form like DWG.
You can’t create proper elevations using the same 2D plan symbols — they’re drawn from a top-down view, not a side view. Elevation drawings need side-profile symbols (like toilets, vanities, etc. from the front or side), which are totally different files.
Look for “2D elevation CAD blocks” or “bathroom elevation symbols” — there are free and paid libraries online (like Draftsperson.net, CADdetails, or even Etsy for simple ones). If you’re using software like AutoCAD or SketchUp, they usually have built-in elevation components too.
So yeah, you’ll need a separate set of symbols — no way around it.
