Maybe use of the word “best” was inappropriate in this situation. A better way to describe it would be, what rendering software under 500CAD (approx 400USD) that has gpu accelerated rendering would you recommend?
I’m not very particular to the lack of IES light support for the RT version of indigo renderer, but I will think about Thea Renderer. Although it’s a little out of my price budget, it’s still within reason for me.
Hello,
Unicorn Render - it is free for students, faculty and academic institutions. This software requires a good GPU (with at least 1500 CUDAs, e.g. nVidia GTX 1070 or better yet 1080). It’s a standalone physics-based renderer which offers almost real-time performance, depending of course on the GPU and number of GPUs.
The commercial price for the lowest version starts at $390, followed by the mid-tier at $690 and the top-of-the-line at $1290 (all in US dollars) but there’s a 16% discount across the board through September 30.
