G’day, everybody, from Australia. My name is Doc and I’m glad to be here.
I make wooden toys for a living and have just recently started (trying) to use Sketchup to ‘redesign’ my stuff in an effort to learn a new skill.
My professional background is Psychology and IT - if I couldn’t fix your IT problem, I could at least make you feel good about it
I’m a total noob but, I must say, being in my mid 60’s, never thought I could use learning SU to get the ‘babes’
I would like to apologise in advance to group members if I cause old posts/threads to become active again after they haven’t been active for a while but just going through some of the stuff in the gallery is absolutely breathtaking.
Keep up the great work and hopefully I’ll get a chance to learn something and maybe even get to share something.
My name is Lee first time that I have posted in fact it is the first time that I have posted on any site, wow that’s a thought. Some time my post may seen a bit strange I am dyslexic, some times I think and type but the to do not matchup.
What is your industry and profession? Just odd jobs and whatever else blows my way as a professional picker-upper, hope to make game development the mainstay someday
Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally? Just for personal projects
Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? I use it as a way to transfer my semi-random mechanistic art style into three dimensions- my favorite thing about Sketchup is the ability to quickly iterate designs without initial foreplanning
How proficient are you in SketchUp? Advanced but aware of how much I could improve
Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp? Would love to but just don’t have the means yet
What is your current set up? i7-3770k + GTX 970 + seven specialized mice I’ve tried using but don’t help with the pain of clicking 40 quadrillion times a day
Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us?https://blueblankey.artstation.com/
Anything else you would like to tell us? I’ve used Sketchup for over ten years off and on- The more models I make the more I understand the procedure behind them. Someday I hope to use this knowledge to create generative procedural algorithms to replicate them at a much faster rate.
What is your favorite Emoji?<= I don’t use them much but here’s a cool T-rex
Do you enjoy long walks on the beach...? I’ve never been to a beach believe it or not, but I do like a good bike ride/ mountain hike

I’m an architect and I use Sketchup professionally. I like Sketchup for its simplicity and my favorite thing about it is the orbit tool.
I’m beginner/intermediate but I’m looking into developing myself. I haven’t been to basecamp, I’m self-taught. I have a Windows 10 system with Pro2016.
Hey guys,
Nicolas here, amateur woodworker looking into broadening my skills and bring them down tho the basement workshop for a try!
Looking forward to exchanging with you all

Hi, all. I’m Little-Acorn, a brand new (and very inexperienced) user of SketchUp. A retired engineer, I’ve used Autocad back in the MS-DOS 6.0 days (yes, I’m that old), designing a deck for a house in 3D. Now I have a Windows 10 desktop, pretty new.
I hope to design small model airplanes for Science Olympiad (3rd year coach), and then be able to look at them from all angles. Thanx for your help!

Hi,
My name is Andy. I am a Carpenter and Cabinet Maker. I have been using sketchup for a number of years (I would consider myself at an intermediate level).
I am currently running PRO 2019 on a windows 10 laptop (with 32GB RAM/ 8 GB Graphics Card).
I use sketchup mostly for modeling cabinets/built-in units and furniture.
I am just finally embracing Dynamic Components and building a cabinet library (which I should have a long time ago!!!).
My favorite thing about sketchup… It is very “woodworker” friendly (which is less than I can say for the other CAD programs I’ve have to use).
Hey everyone, I’ve used the desktop version of SU, then upgraded to SU Shop. I’m a professional custom woodworker, and SU is great for on the fly work in front of the client to conceptualize what they are looking to have made. I then make a detailed drawing for the client to start the conversation. Then I use that detailed drawing to make shop drawings, which I use to make sawdust.
Hello! I am 71 y.o., a retired electrical engineer, but my passion is woodworking. I built a shop that is larger than my residence that, when I enter it and close the door behind me, it feels otherworldly. I began using SketchUp when there were 7 or 8 employees, and their newsletter consisted of personal news like, “Cathy finally found her cat!”, or “Jason got a new bike that he really loves!” I doubt that any one of those original employees could have imagined what SketchUp would become.
I do not make anything without first drawing it up in Sketchup. I have to prove to myself that it works on the screen before I start cutting wood. I’m also at the age where I’m beginning to "measure 3 times, and still cut it too short!
I think that reading the questions all have submitted and the answers of the experts is one more way to learn. That’s why I’m here.
Good day to all! i am Errol from Manila. I love drawings and find it interesting to work with Sketchup. A very good step to start a work especially in woodworking and other related jobs.
Saves time conceptualizing, and worth developing…
Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally? perso
Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? Because DELFTship doesn’t allow fancy 3D design (it is actually not made for that purpose…)
How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner
Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp? WTF is that?
What is your current set up? Pro 19.2.222 Windows 10
Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us? No
Do you enjoy long walks on the beach...? Prefer cruising with two young ladies, a few Four Roses and some ice
To answer the “well that’s fascinating” acronym, 3DBasecamp is the SketchUp conference that happens every two years. The next one is September 2020, in Vancouver:
Hi - I’m Richard - recovering corporate cog, now a garden designer
I learnt to Design Gardens using Sketchup and loved its useability and access to plug ins that allowed me to produce some pretty cool visuals. You can see the sort of thing on the portfolio pages of my website www.richardrogersdesigns.com
I got pretty good at Sketchup before being convinced that I ‘ought’ to use Vectorworks. I have spent months trying to learn VW and it has some great things about it, but I find it ‘clunky’ and too slow from a workflow point of view. So I’m back - with Sketchup!
I’ve toyed with Sketchup for a while, but just recently built a new PC that can really take advantage of the program’s capabilities. I’m using it primarily for woodworking, but have other uses in mind as I begin to restore the old jeep in the driveway.
I’m Brent Wade. I am a handyman and do a lot remodel jobs that involve layout design and finish carpentry design. I like using sketchup to plan out the details of my design and show my client what the finished project will look like so we can refine the concept together.
Hi Brent and welcome. Do you draw the carpets in 3D, or do you use combined textures?
Your profile indicates the web based Free version, which is limited for eg. styles amongst other things but also is for personal use, only. You’ll need Pro for your business, which comes along with twa additional apps, StyleBuilder and LayOut, in which you could transform your ideas, proposals and designs to your clients more professionally!
