Hello everyone,
I first looked at Sketchup when it first came out and passed. Since graduating college, I have worked in product research and development using more advanced 3D modelers for CAE/CAD/CAM. However prior to college, I helped design and install solar hot water heaters, solar thermal systems, and wood fired boilers. In doing so, it became apparent that passive solar was the way to go for any new building (residential or commercial). Letting the building be its own solar collector in the winter and shading device in the summer, while taking advantages of site resources is by far the most cost effective, energy efficient, natural way to provide comfort. At the time all the drawings were on paper and the calculations were done by hand. EnergyPlus became available as a way to automate the calculations, now sketchup has been greatly improved, and I am retired to pursue my passions. I love Building Energy Modeling with the goal to employ passive solar techniques for comfort and lighting. I’m a PC kinda guy as that what has been used for all the CAE/CAD/CAM work I’ve done (with a tiny bit of Unix mixed in). I’ll need your help in changing paradigms!
