I’d like to show my sketchup models to clients on my Samsung tablet, but now that Sketchup Viewer has been retired, how can I do it? Trimble Connect seems to be the way I’m being encouraged to go, but I don’t really understand which option to select. Any advice on how I can achieve this? Thank you!
What version of SketchUp are you using now? Still SketchUp 2021?
It depends on the answer to my question.
HI Dave, I’m using SketchupPro 2025
Update your forum profile.
Save your file to Trimble Connect. Thenuse the Share a Link … Option from the File menu to generate a link you can open in your web browser. Send the link to yourself or to whomever you want to be able to view the model.
That’s great - thanks Dave. I think I’m just working through that now. (At least I don’t have to upgrade!). One question - I’m often on sites with no or limited internet access. Can I download the model onto my tablet from the link? I know I won’t be able to display the model if I try to run it from a server…
As I understand it the only supported viewer now is the online one.so you’d need to have a connection.
Oh i see…there’s a download option but then I guess there’s no sketchup shell to run it in on a tablet?
I’m sure lots of architecture and construction sites don’t initally have WIFI, I wonder how they do it..
You could use the hotspot on your cellphone.
Most of the civilized builders I have worked with had job trailer, toilet, coffee machine, and internet access.
That’s true, although many landscapers I worke with dont’ have coffee machines and internet access in the rural south west here is vary patchy at times! But I take your point - the mobile hotspot is a good idea, thank you.
Just for general FYI:
Look for an export to glTF or glB option.
I asked Gemini AI what Android Viewers for the OpenGL Transmission Format there are.
(Click to expand AI answer) ...
Yes, there are glTF and glB viewer apps available for Android tablets on the Google Play Store.
Several applications are specifically designed or include support for viewing 3D models in the glTF (GL Transmission Format) and glB (the binary version of glTF) formats on Android devices, including tablets.
Some examples include:
- GLB Viewer : An app specifically focused on viewing
.glband.gltffiles with mobile-optimized gestures. - AR World: glTF/GLB Viewer : An app that allows you to view and customize glTF and glB models, with a focus on augmented reality (AR) experiences.
- AVE3D - 3D Model Viewer and Ex : This viewer supports many popular 3D formats, including glB, and is suitable for browsing 3D models on Android.
- Google’s Scene Viewer : This is an immersive viewer that can be launched from a website or an Android app and allows users to view and interact with web-hosted 3D models (glTF/glB) in 3D or augmented reality. While not a standalone app in the traditional sense, it’s a native Android capability often used for this purpose.
To find the most suitable app for your tablet, you can search the Google Play Store for terms like “glTF viewer,” “glB viewer,” or “3D model viewer.”
Thank you, that’s really useful. I’ll try it out!
