Viewer won't open files from latest build of SketchUp 2024

I have Sketchup Viewer 5.5.2 (1594) installed on my Android device which will not open models saved from Sketchup 2024 24.0.594. The viewer says “There was an error opening this file. Please re-download this model and try again.”

Any model saved from and earlier version of SketchUp will open correctly. Models from earlier builds of SketchUp 2024 will open too.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and a possible fix?

This issue seems similar to this topic posted in SketchUp Viewer / Android: Last update of SketchUp Android mobile viewer can’t open files

In my case, however, older files will open. Only newer files from the latest SketchUp 2024 are affected.

Hello,

Yes, this is exactly the issue I’m having !
The post that you refer was initially created in the “Technical Problems” category but has been moved to the “Viewer” category by moderation for some reason. Also in fact my “old” files work too (was the same message in opening but for another reason).

Hope the devs fix this issue very soon ! :crossed_fingers:

Same here. Anything created/saved with last version of Sketchup will not open in Viewer App. Major Bummer.

Same here. All newly saved SketchUp files will not open in SketchUp Viewer app (Android). App is fully updated. I have reinstalled, cleared cache/data, logged in from scratch, and deleted files and re downloaded them. Same error message. Older files open just fine. Please fix.

Same problem here… Only happens to (older) projects saved recently. Jumped all the obvious hoops, but no resolve.

I got the same issue with the viewer on my Android tablet. On my Iphone somehow the viewer app is still working fine. Is there any update to be expected soon? My workers need the updated models on the construction site.

I am also having this issue. I am using Sketchup Pro version 24.0.595 on MacOS Ventura. Any file I create with Sketchup Pro cannot be viewed using the latest Android viewer. Files created in November using the Web version do open in the Android viewer. Also, I downloaded the 2023 version of Sketchup Pro, opened a 2024 file, saved it as 2023 and was able to open that in the Android viewer so it definitely is a compatibility issue with 2024.

Having this issue as well, with a file created today (Dec 2024) in the web version. Using Linux, so I don’t have the option of opening a desktop version and saving in an earlier version. Saving in an earlier version was apparently removed in the web app, so that’s not an option either, even with my paid version.

@MikeTadros is there any update to this issue yet? Unfortunately I am still not able to use the viewer app on my Android Tablet for models which been saved after November 2024

Getting the same problem. Can still open old files not touched by recent Sketchup.

yes, the android viewer hasn’t been updated for some time, and it doesn’t open SU24’s files.
and there is no immediate plan to update it, with Sketchup focused on iOS.

you can always use Dezmo’s extension to save as earlier versions.

Same issue, I hope this gets resolved. I use Sketchup because I can open models on site with my tablet.

Same issue here! It started months ago with the AR feature within the Android app, and now this.

Thank you, SketchUp! It seems like a significant portion of your users rely on Android and SketchUp Viewer, yet you don’t seem to care much about us. Why the increasing focus on Apple while leaving the rest of your user base behind?
