This is only for Windows. (sad face) Will this arrangement extend to Mac as well?
Suuuuurely being able to render a View within LO cant be terribly challenging, technically? It would be a nice workflow and may even open a door to interesting possibilities around rendering ‘at scale’ (ie inches/mm, instead of just pixel dimensions.
I use Indigo but will consider switching our staff to Vray as part of the studio bundle. Scan essentials was already tempting me.
This seems fairly straight forward…50 pages rendered using 10 cores would be…10 times faster than 1 core!
More advanced would be pulling the model rendering pipeline away from the rest of the stuff (eg tables, text and titleblock objects not associated with model geometry)
Hi @marcodileo in your case, I’d say that at a $699 promo price you will get Pro+ Scan Essentials + V-Ray 5 in one package and that is a great deal. Given you have both mac and wins machines, so there is extra cost for hardware for you. V-Ray 5 performs and runs better on wins for me personally and I have recently switched from mac to wins myself. Let me know what your decision will be?
Hey @AK_SAM good V-Ray rendering within LO suggestion, I have seen similar feedback from a few users across the forum. I will keep an eye on this request.
Scan to BIM is really becoming more mainstream from the market research we have done, esp with Apple now adds lidar sensor to all its latest devices. Getting hold of the point cloud is more accessible. Scan Essentials is a simple yet innovative tool and we have the roadmap to make it even more competitive. There is a 30 days free trial so definitely give it a try. If you get the Studio offering now for $699 compared to buying Pro + Scan Ess separately for $849. Huge saving!
Hey, we monitor and track the feedback and will adjust the offering accordingly. Right now Scan Essentials is purely on Wins, we will need to research further about developing it for Mac
Hi. It would be great to utilize SketchUp Studio on MacOS. Vray runs great and I love it. - Joe
Does the Sketchup Studio V-Ray installer include all V-Ray integrations i.e. V-Ray for Rhino, Revit etc ? If so Sketchup Studio does look like a good offering, otherwise the price for a Sketchup only version of V-Ray would be way too high
No, only V-Ray for SketchUp.
SketchUp Studio for Windows includes the Scan essentials (for Windows) and V-Ray for SketchUp.
The V-Ray for SketchUp works for both platforms, but if you don’t use the Scan essentials (which only works on Windows), it’s not economically worth it, and your better off with two separate subscriptions.
isn’t it though ?
SKP pro is 285€ /y (I’ll talk tax free)
studio is 639€ /y, so an extra 354€
Vray, paid annually, is either 418€ or 634€ (solo or premium). Once more, taxes not included
(I don’t know if solo or premium is included in the studio, let’s say solo)
so even if you are on a mac and don’t plan on using anything but sketchup and vray, buying sketchup studio is at least a 64€ (pre taxes) save on buying both separately.
The only way studio is more expensive than buying two separate licences is if you buy the 3y vray package (solo). Then you’ll save 4,5€ per year.
So, unless I’m missing something, Studio IS a good deal for all skp + vray users. I think it should actually be advertised as such on the website, the “windows only” is misleading, some tools are windows only, but the rest isn’t and is already worth buying the package.
Ok, I might have had outdated info, my bad.
Chaos no longer sells the V-Ray for SketchUp. But, SketchUp Studio (for Windows) doesn’t include the new ‘Solo’ subscription type from Chaos which include support for all integrations
You will only get the V-Ray for SketchUp module.
Recipe for deception?
I thin so:
V-Ray Solo - Annual
Reference: VRAY-SOLO-ANN
$466.80
Products Included
The V-Ray Solo license consists of V-Ray for 3ds Max, V-Ray for Maya, V-Ray for SketchUp, V-Ray for Rhino, V-Ray for Revit, V-Ray for Cinema 4D, V-Ray for Unreal, and the incredible library of 3D assets within Chaos Cosmos.
License Type
Annual license. Billed every Month. Includes access to all updates and future versions.
Support Included
Free Support from Vray.us
it’s not just you, I remember asking exactly that on twitter when studio was released, had to pry a complete answer regarding the compatibility with vray on a mac
But yeah, deception as you say. Turns out that for almost the price of skp + a full solo licence you get skp + other tools + a “limited” vray version (skp only)
So the +64€ is the price to pay to have a full licence. gotcha.
I’m teaching twinmotion these days, but clearly, if I had to switch to vray, I would do as you advise, buy two separate licences (considering I don’t need the other tools of the bundle)
Thanks Anssi, i almost signed up for Sketchup Studio - Ill have to think about this a bit more now. I was in the market for a new renderer, though would prefer cross-platform and not being tied to Sketchup only
pricecheck 24-10-2022
I’ll stick with Twilight V2 Pro render since, for my personal hobby usage, it’s more cost efficient with just a one time payment of €99 which supports all versions from Sketchup 2015 free version up to the latest PRO version.
Twilight V2 Pro €99 (once)
SU2015 (free) up to SUP2022 €285 per year
VRay5 €419/539/635 per year
SUP2022 € 285 per year
SUS2022 + VRay5 €639 per year
Question: which version of VRay5 is included? Official website doesn’t offer a ‘Vision’ version but they do offer a ‘Solo’, ‘Premium’ and ‘Enterprice’ version.
Hey sorry, I missed the message. The price of Studio is $699 and have you tried to order again? You won’t need a promo code. Let me know how it goes?
Hi AnnoNiem,
Studio includes V-Ray 6 and its equivalent to the V-Ray solo license type, but you can use V-Ray on two devices, for instance, one for your work machine and one for your home device.
Depending on the quality of the visualization that you are looking for, we found V-Ray gives the best quality of rendering among all commercial renderers on the market. You can sign up for a free 30 days trial to test the V-Ray 6 but I found its easier to use than previous versions.
Thanks!
Hi the version of V-Ray 6 that’s included in Studio will be for SketchUp only and it does not work for other 3D modellers like Revit, 3DS MAX or Rhino. If you want to buy V-Ray which is usable for all other 3D modelling host software, then V-Ray solo might be better which costs $405 / year or $33/ month, Studio is $699 that’s for Pro ($299) + V-Ray 6 ($405)+ Scan Essentials ($550) = $1254 annual cost. So if you think you can make use of all 3 applications then Studio is more cost effective.
Olivia
Hi Mike
The V-Ray 6 version that is included in Studio will only support SketchUp integration. If you need other 3D modellers in addition to SketchUp, then you will need to buy V-Ray separately from Chaos or our channel partners who sell 3 license types of V-Ray including Solo, Premium and Enterprise ( you need to buy more than 5 seats). Thanks.
