Yes, the generation tool is pretty unstable. We are more focusing on the usage of gs than the generation but I ll see what is possible to do.

Hi
Good to ear the news about a new version.
Should I uninstall the previous version first?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards.

Hi,
No need to uninstall first but as usual, you’ll need to restart SketchUp after having updated the extension.
Nice video ! Btw, how did you generate your GS ?
Hi
I used Mipmap3d - to reconstruct the images - drone. This software is free to use on works with less than 500 images.
The results are better than I expected.
The output files are in various formats 3d and Gaussian splat like .las .ply and includes .skp-textured mesh.
Then I edited the gaussian splat file .ply with Supersplat - free too.
After that I started working the .ply file with Sketchup Gaussian Splat plugin and Undet.
Sketchup Gaussian Splat plugin in render mode resulted more than satisfactory.
Undet showed better the point cloud to model the buildings.
Parameters MipMap3d:
More of “Not working at all”, at least for me, unfortunately.
Could you describe a bit more your issues with it ? (maybe mp or the Trimble Labs forum)
I keep getting a crash when I try to upload a PLY file. Its 74mb is that to large a file?
Crash #220648
Hi all
Following on get involved on using Gaussian splats as part of my works.
I must inform that I was not able to use the splat generator.
As an option,
I have used 395 drone photos and rebuild on MipMap with High level parameters.
I have edited the splat on SuperSplat.
And I have upload to Sketchup and created a Sklat.
I was very happy. with the result.
Then I saved every thing and close the program.
But for now it is impossible to reload either the sklat. file or the ply. file
When I do that appear the bellow messages:
The file on SuperSplat
The file uploaded to SketchUp
The files description:
I have tried to start from the scratch with a new SketchUp file…but it happened the same - It didn´t upload the file…sketchup creates a new tag…but nothing…and I was trying to upload the same ply. file.
In conclusion I have no idea about what happened if I have achieved during the first attempt with success, as you can see in the video…and now why it turned impossible to repeat what I have made before.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.
Sorry, I’m less responsive than on Trimble Labs forum. No 74mb is not too large, I could open 1Go files. What is the version you used ? Have you already opened this ply in another viewer ? Could you open the samples using this new version ?
If you can share the ply with me, I’ll try to open it on my side.
