The Best SU+LO Automation for Construction Drawings?

I’d love to participate

Why not. I’m in!

I can’t promise, I’m in the middle of a project + the time difference
Imo, you need to decide what questions you want to touch on and based on this, the author should form a presentation plan.

I have a few questions that I’ll ask the author when the time is right. I wrote about the advantages and disadvantages of 5D+ in the first post (but a lot has changed since then).

I find it quite easy to understand how this ecosystem works. Too bad there are no full tutorials in English, but the author is very active here on the forum, FB, YT, Google chat.

The hardest part is the Curic Section (if you want to use section hatches), especially since the author doesn’t get in touch

Mate i answered your questions & to be honest it sounds as though you like the sound of your own voice… You haven’t given PlusSpec a decent try so you can’t compare it. No doubt that’s the same with Condocs.
Good luck.

I think this is a terrific idea!

Having viewpoints and insights from a variety of expert SketchUp users on their specific workflows is fascinating. I am an architect by training, but am more involved with development and strategy and would love to not only show what I do, but learn on what the heck I have been missing in these new tools. Guess you could say I am an “old dog” nowadays.

I attended Mike Brightman’s wonderful 3D Summit this past summer and connected face-to-face with the most amazing, insightful and inspiring people that leverage this software as a daily driver. Expanding the idea of leaning through connection with people on this forum really resonates with me.

In fact, I will challenge the SketchUp folks to take the lead. Aaron, Eric, Tyson and Matt, etc. (don’t know how to mention them in this thread) have greatly contributed to the growth and evolution of SketchUp and LayOut with their respective YouTube channel. But, much of it is aimed at introduction to concepts, not a longer form series. I realize there is still SketchUp Campus but how’s about a deeper dive at ongoing but regular intervals to get more of us together?

In fact, I’ll go one further and take a poll! Nothing like “healthy pressure” to make a great idea start to take shape

  • Why not both?

This topic was more intended to gather the opinions of regular users (like you and me). I think the gem lies here. Neither the SU team nor the extension developers can create a tool without the conclusion of other users.
When studying an extension, you typically only hear about the advantages highlighted by the developers. Now imagine 10-100 architects discussing in a single topic, each detailing their workflows along with the pros and cons they encounter. This process would benefit users, the SU Team, and the extension developers as well. Once they identify the needs, they can improve their extension.
E.g.: when I decided to use SketchUp, I was unaware of all its drawbacks at that time. It’s also impossible to purchase all the modeling programs, study them at an advanced level, and then form an opinion on which one to use. I relied on the general information available about each software option, which is how I made my decision. If I had been aware of all the disadvantages of each program, I might have chosen differently.
Similarly, regarding extensions/ecosystems for construction documents, given that SketchUp struggles with automating construction documents, imagine if each user noted their pros and cons—we would all benefit from that information because it would determine which extension each person would use and would save a lot of time.

@bmaxim is right. I created a separate thread on this to not hijack this topic. It’s here: IFC / BIM / Sketchup+Layout Advanced Workflows Group

Let’s get this off the ground, and continue the discussion startet here as well.

Maxim Hi, I made a video where I showed a more detailed process of digitizing stained-glass windows in a third-party program and then colverting them into a sketch-up. I hope that the video can be useful to you as information for thought (although you wrote that you do not need such a method in your work). Видео презентация программного обеспечения ORGADATA Logikal.

Thank you, @Murat75, for sharing this.
I’m sure it’s a very useful program, particularly one that calculates and manages window, door, and facade production.
I’ve never been asked to provide more details than the general door and window parameters.
However, I have questions for you:

  • Can it create door and window schedules (something like that)?

  • Is it an extension of Revit, or is it a standalone program? I can’t find enough information. What is the price?

Thanks!

Of course! This is a professional program for the production of stained-glass windows and windows, with all the optimization functions, the choice of fittings, the creation of drawings in AutoCAD, the creation of CNC tasks, the cutting of materials and, of course, the creation of a commercial offer. Without this program, not a single manufacturing company in the world works. To the drawing you attached, they give a section of the profiles

What is the process? How did you create this schedule? Did you export each window separately from ORGADATA to CAD? Can ORGADATA automate schedules for all windows at once?
Because I can manually do that with SU+ LO without CAD or any additional programs.
