Hi there, I’ve paid for and downloaded skimp. I have an FBX model of a site from a surveyor. Having pre-viewed the file in FBX viewer - I can the textures are there. I have ‘apply UV texture’ enabled in the plug-in. The textures don’t come in though - it comes in as white. Any suggestions?
hello, the apply UV texture option does not garantee it will load it. It’s for making sure its position is going to be maintained.
Fbx file can have embed texture or in a separate folder. Does your fbx model come with a folder containing them ?
Hi Paul, I suspect its embedded, as when I open it in the 3D online viewer it looks as it should and I can see a material listed in there as ‘material0’. It shows as checked in Sketchup. I have the surveyor on hand to give us anything we need though. So if we need it as a separate file to import it, we can. Thanks for your help.
I don’t have skimp, but it seems it doesn’t support embed textures fbx format.
It’s good if you have him on hand, follow this tutorial if you manage to get the texture image(s)
If anyone runs into this same issue, it is possible to use blender ( free) to extracts textures from an .fbx model
I’ve got the image as a pgn file? Where do I go to use the blender?
Thanks
you don’t need blender if you have the image ! follow the video I posted if you already have the texture image
Sorry no joy, it just applies the image individually onto every poly / surface rather than drapping the whole image of the site. Grrr
Did you use sketchup paint bucket or the dedicated tool from skimp toolbar just like in the video ?
Make sure you use the skimp paint tool - not the sketchup paint tool, otherwise the UVs will not be used.
Yes, I used the skimp tool, the image isn’t scaling over the whole model though. I’m going back the surveyor to see if I can get more, it maybe that the PNG file isn’t large enough, not sure. We can try saving as an OBJ instead and importing that if that supports textures?
Ok, its sorted, the surveyor re-exported the FBX model and embedded the texture, think he must have got a setting wrong last time, upshot is - it worked. For once it wasn’t user error at my end! Thanks for all your help.
