Its been my understanding that a SU pro license include Vray scan materials, and that’s been the case until I just updated to the latest of both. Now when I go download materials that are “scan” materials (small symbol in lower right) through Chaos within SU, and try to use these materials, I get the following message - that says I don’t have a license, but it will “render as expected”? Plus, it lists the file name for the material, as if I’m supposed to download it for some reason. Seems to render fine.
My licensing is all intact and working fine for Vray, just not the scans. Yet they have them available as materials? And no real way I can see to even get a license or install it in SU? Plus- its always been a part of SU Studio, through 6, and did this change?
This “downgrade” (if I’m not mistaken) occurred with Vray 7, as noted as a subtle note below from the Chaos site, which says you didn’t need one with Vray 6, but now do with Vray 7. SU says nothing about any of this, and the Chaos forum is “:down for maintanence”.
Anyone see the same thing? Or know how to fix it ?
The Vray licence include in studio is a limited one, always has been. It’s only for sketchup, can’t use it on another platform.
Now, Chaos has been reorganising their offers, and yeah, it seems some things that were standard vray are now premium vray.
It’s a bit like adobe did a while back. Substance was included in the complete collection. then they removed it, added a couple of extra tools and packaged it into a dedicated 3d collection.
Unfortunately, that’s the rule of the game. either downgrade to vray 6 or pay more. where it’s becoming stupid is that your vray subscription is not a standard plan so you can’t simply upgrade your plan.
you should contact them directly so they can confirm it all, but yeah, it sucks.
these days the studio package makes no sense anymore.
you can now directly get pro + revit importer and/or scan essential without vray (for the users who prefer another renderer). and if you want vray, well better get it from them, at least you’ll get full support.
Thanks aeteliernab- that sounds right. Studio was cheaper than buying them separate at my last update, but will reconsider again when I have to update. It more annoying than anything- to have that message show up everytime you try to use a scanned material0 though maybe going back to Vray 6 would be an option too. I will contact them as well to confirm its as you say, but I think you’re dead on.
