i am trying to save a custom style that i have made
but i can’t find the default location fot styles.
it used to be
C:\Users***\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 201\SketchUp\Styles
where is it now?
It should still be there but if you haven’t created any custom style libraries, there won’t be a Styles folder there. You can easily create your own, however.

No! You should not be putting custom styles into the Program Data…SketchUp folders. You should be creating a new folder in User/App Data/Roaming… If you put styles into Program Data, they will be removed if you ever have any reason to reinstall or uninstall SU2017. (This possibly includes installing maintenance releases.) That Styles folder will be overwritten. If you put it into the Users/App Data directory as I said before, it will remain untouched in the event of reinstall or uninstall.

when I place the custom styles at

it doesn’t show up in the style window…
it DOES when i place it at …programdata…

Make the Styles folder in Users/AppData… and then in the Styles window, open the Details menu and choose Add collection to favorites… Navigate to the Styles folder in User/AppData/Roaming… and open it.
Or do as you wish but don’t complain when you lose your styles.
%APPDATA% doesn’t work, at least as advertised in the release notes:
