Over the past couple of versions of SU Pro I have not been able to use leader-based notes. The button is in the menu, and I can add a leader to my model only as far as typing the text. When I complete the command and go back to the select tool, the leader and text just disappear. They are nowhere to be found - not on another tag, not placed somewhere else in the model, not hiding in any geometry. They are just gone like they were never created. I don’t use these leaders much as I normally add notes in Layout, but they are good for a quick markup. What is going on?
Here is a video showing the problem.
Looks to me as if you aren’t actually completing the job of creating the label. After typing the text click outside of the text box before changing the tool.
By the way, have you made a group or component for the shelf or is it loose geometry? You shouldn’t be getting the coordinates of the point you clicked unless you are clicking on ungrouped geometry. And if the shelf was a named component you shouldn’t need to type the word 'Shelf" at all.
Hmm yes…stupid me. I did have the disappearing leader problem in the previous version even when clicking outside the box, but it appears to be resolved now. Thanks for the quick response. Not enough coffee this morning.
Also I am aware of the auto labelling feature but just lazy! I end up doing all my labelling & specification in LO which requires more detailed notes than the labels can provide.
Understood. My point is that you must have been clicking on loose, ungrouped geometry to get the coordinates in the label.
Labels in LayOut do have the option to include a lot more information that labels in SketchUp. All of these labels are automatically filled using the component descriptions in the model and all of those descriptions are automatically created in SketchUp. I didn’t have to type a thing.
Yes that is a great feature to use and I wish I could take advantage of it more. Unfortunately my notes need to change for different views of the component depending on what I need to say. The information is often different in an assembly view compared to a section view or a plan view. So whilst the auto-text pops up, I usually have to delete it and change it to something else. This has led me to not bother with entering any description fields in the first place.
