The SketchUp Ascent Competition is back and better than ever! In 2024 we’re offering two competition streams, one for higher education students and the other for K-12 educators.
Are you a university or college student with a passion for design and a knack for SketchUp? We want to see your finest portfolio work!!
Do you teach K-12 students and use SketchUp as a creative addition to your lesson planning? Show us how you like to use 3D modeling in your classes!
The SketchUp Ascent Competition is your chance to show off your creativity and modeling skills. And the best part is, we’re sending the top three finalists in each category on an all expenses paid trip to 3D Basecamp and Trimble Dimensions in Las Vegas, where they’ll have the opportunity to compete for one of two Grand Prizes!
If you have any questions about the SketchUp Ascent Competition, post them here and we’ll get back to you with an answer!

Your rules state that students must be 21 or over to submit. Many college students are not 21. Is this stipulation correct? Thanks!
Unfortunately it is correct. We are holding 3D Basecamp alongside Trimble Dimensions this year and as a result, it is in Las Vegas. Our legal team said that we had to put this limitation in place to prevent a few issues that may arise from having people under 21 on site for the event.
I really wish this was not the case, but the legal team was quite firm on this and at the end of the day we have to respect the rules they gave us if we want to hold the contest.
well the whole city is 21+ so it makes sense
can they form teams (with older students) or is it singles only ?
I am not sure if teams are allowed. Maybe @Tori_SU can answer that when she gets a chance.
I believe that, historically, it has allways been individuals. Specifics on the competition in the link that Tori originally shared!

Hmmm…ok. And do the students have to be 21 when they enter…or just by the convention date?
Or have you considered letting students submit if they’re not 21, just not attend the conference in person if they’re finalists. Just the process of submitting and possibly having some accolades to add to their resume could be a beneficial experience for students.
As stated in the rules, only submissions from students 21 and older will be considered. This is handed down from our legal department and cannot be side-stepped. As for the date of the birthday, that is something that @Tori_SU would have to check into.
Got it…thanks for the clarification!
Do we receive a notification email for submittal?
Unfortunately, not something I can answer. Probably best to ask @Tori_SU !
Can Students from Asia participate?
I had submitted my student competition application, but I didn’t get a confirmation. Instead the page had redirected me back to the SketchUp Home page. How do I know if my submission went through?
Students need to be 21 by the date of the event, so summer birthdays can still apply!
There are no notification emails following submittal, but you’ll hear from the team regarding any received applications after adjudication has been completed.
I can confirm that we have received an application under your name!
We appreciate your interest in the competition! Unfortunately due to regional regulations we do have to limit eligible participants, and you can find the complete list here in our official competition rules: Official Rules - SketchUp Ascent Competition 2024 (Students) - Google Docs
