Procreate for Ipad is made for artists an works with drawing pixels, but you can turn on a raster. And even lock y- and x axis. Then you could export the drawing as PSD, PDF, JPEG, PNG or TIFF. Of course it would be necessary to bring the drawing to the right scale in SketchUp.
Btw. Drawing with Ipad Pro 12,9" + Pencil works great. The handling an feel is a lot better than on MS Surface Pro 7 (I own both).
Another app I have in mind, but I didn´t used it yet, is Shapr3d (but it´s more similar to SketchUp I guess and not a 2d drafting app).
I love the idea and have often wondered the same. I make high-level site plans and sketch over top of them…but its a chore.
I would even be happy to have a nice freehand drawing tool in LayOut
But drawing in 3d space would also be cool.
There are some good programs for drawing hand-painted textures onto 3d models (zbrush and stuff)…mostly for gaming/viz industries.
So the tech exists and it’s not super complicated.
Within SKP+LO we have quite a few tools that could help…
We need a way to draw freehand …i think with the following features:
automatically softens/smooths the curves in a sort of intelligent way (using our smoothing angle preferneces)
can turn off snapping while using freehand tools
select from a range of pen styles (a bit lik ea material pallete but it’s a pen style pallete - adopting the StyleBuilder stuff would be a useful start)
uses a “Tools on Surface” option as well as a “resrict to 2d plane” option
once created, the 3d polyline should be grouped automatically and allow different stroke/colour styles applied afterwards
adjustment of anchor points would als be very useful (this is the part I havent seen in skps basic toolsets)
Does that about cover it?
So any extension developers wanting a project?
I’ll be a customer.
I have a running joke with my mentor Dave Richards. I call him the “Sketchup Advisory Board” as a play on the old Prairie Home Companion Radio Show that created phony advertisement with the Ketchup Advisory Board. You had to be there…
