SketchUp 2026 FBX export model units problem

Hi there - I always used SU 2025 to export building models to 3dsmax.
Even though the model is in mm, I had to change the FBX model units to cm when exporting to 3dsmax.
FBX exports correctly and is scaled in mm in 3dsmax the way I want it.

The problem now is that I use the same settings in SU 2026 (26.2.243), but the model is scaled way to big when exporting to FBX and opening it in 3dsmax.
I change the model units to cm in the export settings and close and save it, but when I go back in the settings it shows the default “model units”, not cm.
In SU 2025 it shows the units you exported as previously when you go back in to the export settings.

So maybe SU 2026 does not pick up the changed units and defaults back to “model units”?
I’ve tried all the various units like mm/cm/m/feet/inches etc, but get the same scaled FBX model in 3dsmax?

Even though the unit scale in SU is set to mm in the work window, the FBX export scale is like a 1000x too big?

Does this make sense?

Please advise.

yeah, that looks like a bug to me - 2026 doesn’t respect what you choose. It always converts/ writes the document’s model units to the file whereas 2025 recognises the option and makes the adjustment.

2025 works as expected.

Here is a 1m cube with the export units set to model units (document units is set in metres)
left is last 2025 right is latest 2026

The vertices are not adjust in the 2026.2 export.

Neither writes a global scale or anything else that might be read by readers.

Thanks for the bug report @pnel77 and the verification and details @Elmtec-Adam.

This is a known issue (Windows only), introduced in 2026.0. We put a fix in place last week that will get released with 2027.0.

@pnel77 sorry, that is super top secret must never be revealed on pain of termination of employment information.

But it won’t be for a while as it’s a major release. If this is a major blocker for people we can consider adding it to the next patch (if any).

I’ll just use version 2025 for exporting then.
