We’re excited to announce that a new patch for SketchUp 2026 is now available! Download the update now, or, if you already have SketchUp open, simply go to Help > Check for Update (Windows), SketchUp/Check for Update (Mac).
I’m having a problem using the Diffusor extension in SketchUp. Every time I try to activate the Diffusor tool, SketchUp immediately crashes and the BugSplat error window appears.
Because of this, I can’t use the extension at all. Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what might be causing this issue?
SketchUp Diffusion rebranded as AI Render. However it is requires subscription based Sketchup product.
According to your forum profile, you have a Classic license. There is no such thing. From this I assume that you are using a illegal version. If so, it is not really wise to ask for help on the owner’s forum page.
I want to clarify that I am not using an illegal version of SketchUp. I have a student license, which is why my account may appear differently in the forum profile.
My issue is not related to licensing. The problem is that every time I try to activate the AI Render (formerly Diffusion) tool, SketchUp crashes immediately. The program closes as soon as I click the tool.
I’m trying to understand whether this could be related to my GPU, drivers, or compatibility with the AI Render feature, since the rest of SketchUp works normally.
If you have any suggestions on what might be causing the crash, I would really appreciate the help.
And if you send in a BugSplat report your browser should open a page that checks for reports similar to yours and then gives you a crash number. Using that number the SketchUp team can look up your report and answer better about what is going wrong.
When I try to use the Diffuser tool, SketchUp immediately crashes. After the crash, the BugSplat window appears asking me to write a report so it can be sent to SketchUp.
I have already submitted the report through that window.
Good. Maybe Colin will be able to find the crash report. And now your profile shows you are using the free web version which doesn’t include AI Render.
And then you edited it back to say Classic license which also doesn’t include AI Render.
If you have SketchUp 2026 installed already, updating to the latest release will not impact toolbars, installed extensions, or other things you’ve set up.
Be sure to right click on the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
You must be referring to tags you’ve set up in your default template. That has nothing to do with updates. You don’t need an extension to make your template available in a new version of SKetchUp. The easiest way to make a SketchUp template available is probably to open it in the previous version and immediately save it to your desktop or the Documents folder. Then in the new version, open that file and immediately use File>Save as template.
I have a template file I use to open up all new project with my custom tags but every year I have to re enter them in the new version. I’ll have to try what your saying when the next version comes out. I was just hoping the update wouldn’t reset the tags, it didn’t.
Reinforcing what @DaveR wrote, tags (formerly layers) are associated with a SketchUp model, including a template, not with the app.
All that’s happened is that the newly installed version only knows where to find the default templates that come with it, not your custom template with your standard tags. Do as Dave wrote and you will be all set.
