Sketchucation's Questions

It could be a language thing, but is changing the size of something not basically the same as scaling?

I didn’t “whack you into trying to get something for free”. You first two sentences implied you thought you had to pay to be a member.

I only addressed that and tried to answer your questions.

I also found that you were already a non-paying member and have been since 2016. And I see you opted to become a premium member the other day.

At least to me, scaling implies some sort of proportional change like the Scale tool does. Using the Move tool to change a dimension doesn’t need to result in a proportional change to the geometry.

I just wanted to mention that it is possible to do with the move tool.
Most extensions perform tasks that can be done manually but faster…

I replied to a similar question here.

Yes. I didn’t say I wasn’t a free member. That’s how I got Fredo Scale on a trial basis and knew it did what I needed. Whatever the misunderstanding over my wording, this got very frustrating (and not with you in particular) I’m trying to make nice here.
No Mas - please.

I see what you mean now, the move tool indeed doesn’t do that…

Do you speak Spanish?

No spanish to speak of (sadly). A reference to Roberto Duran vs Sugar Ray Leonard (not that I am a big boxing fan either). Showing my age perhaps.

See my YouTube video on my channel Christopher A Krupp . Architect for a video called Move tool versus the Scale tool for a clear explanation.

Thanks Cakrupp,
I watched the video and I do understand how the move/scale tools can work. I got the Fredo package and in fact had tried it out last summer on a 30 day trial and knew it would do what I needed. My initial question was really about what a premium SketchUcation subscription was all about and not so much a “how to”.

The attached images are included to show what I needed to do (and have done) given the way the frames, sash, etc are modeled. And, yes, I am a crazy person with the details.

Thanks again!

Another option for you to choose beside Fredo Scale is Curic Stretch. Here it is:

Hopefully, there’s an unlocked back door in the looney bin, cause you’ll need it. (you are most definitely insane).

It, as it should, appears that you likely have many “layers” (nested) groups/components in your models.
Don’t know if Fredo’s extension allows you to edit all of them with a single “move” or not. For your sake, I hope so, otherwise, you’ll be repeating your “stretches” over and over for all the various parts.

I think I’d explode the finished window (keeping a non-exploded original) and make it a single group so selecting vertical or horizontal elements as associated entities via a selection window would be easy. I usually make a single window of 1’ x 1’ size, then make numerous copies and stretch them out to the various sizes you want/need, essentially making a library of generic windows.

I find that the detail you have put into your windows will be lost within a large model and will just weigh down the whole thing.
Unless you’re a window mfgr, that amount of detail is not required. Mine are probably only about 5% of yours; a frame, a sash and glass.(mullions if req’d) end of story.

Great drawings though. And I thought I was a detail guy!!!

This does look like a good tool that might have worked just as well. Next time.Thanks.
