Should topic threads stay open or be closed after 90 days?

And so we are now in the sixth thread on this subject (because all the others were auto-closed) …

And as I said in the fifth thread … Topic automatically closing… system new message:

… and as I said in that thread (and got 7 likes then) …

"This topic will automatically close in 3 months."

I would rather see a feature where the solution mark causes an automatic 30 day countdown clock to “retirement.” (These are the “single user issue” threads.)

I am totally against the arbitrary locking of ALL threads of all kinds. It ignores the fact that there are “timeless” discussion threads, not just “single user issue / question” threads.

And here is another type of topic ( feature request ) that should not ever be automatically closed. Only manually closed if the feature is actually added to the application.

Should i reply several unanswered old topics individually on same subject?

So to me, it is more important to answer (or give a solution to) any open thread, than to add clutter by forcing members to open new threads on the same issue or subject.

I find it SO ironic that we are NOW in the FIFTH thread, (that I could find,) on this SAME topic !

• Why do some threads automatically close, others in an amount of time that counts down, and others “3 months after the last reply?”
• Topic automatically closing… system new message ( THIS THREAD )

Nothing in the Meta category should ever be auto-closed. (Only manual close by OP or Admins.)

Therefore I believe, as implemented, that the auto closing feature is a failure .
