Should this forum introduce AI-assisted moderation?

This forum is often where new users come to ask questions, share work, and learn SketchUp.

Maybe AI-assisted moderation could help keep that environment healthier.

Not by replacing human moderators, but by flagging repeated behavior such as personal attacks, baiting, mockery, and topic derailment.

A forum works best when people feel safe enough to ask, build, and share.

I don’t think it’s necessary. I think human-driven moderation is enough. This would be an example of trying to apply something where it’s unneeded, in my personal opinion.

You have mute options. You have options to flag posts. There are civil rules that must be adhered to if you wish to participate in this forum. If you see a user acting against those rules, flag the post.

If you’re personally attacked, flag it and mute the user. The existing infrastructure should be more than enough without introducing convoluted AI monitoring on top of it.

Man, you have very questionable opinions about AI and you feel the urge to make a post a day about it (and this is not an AI forum).
Then you defend your very questionable thesis with stupid arguments taken straight out from Linkedn/corporate marketing bullshit.
People disagreeing with you is not personal attack, is YOU being repeatedly provocative.
Now you did another post suggesting to replace brains with AI.
Expect another shitstorm, LOL. :joy:

moved to Meta , the section about the forum.

I think this sums it up perfectly

If you post on a public forum you should realise that some people will disagree with you and that you should for the most part just shrug it off. Yes there are a few people that come across as rude or mean, but that’s just people in general. Some people are nicer than others.

It may be that someone is trying to offer you constructive criticism but due to English not being their first language, their reply is coming across abrupt and dismissive.

Whenever I’ve seen a spam post appear on the forum it’s always been dealt with quickly so the moderators must be around and ready to respond at a moments notice.

If someone is genuinely bothering you, do as Arcwalde says and mute them. I think there’s an option to “ignore” which means their replies to your posts will never even appear for you.

Then you can go about your business and continue on the Forum without feeling harassed.

This forum is a great place to get advice or learn tips and tricks.

I’m going to setup an AI booster AI agent and let it loose here…

But anyway, I think if you are going to talk about AI in any creative field, you are going to be met with some objections. The planet destroying plageriser machine isn’t actually entirely everyone’s favourite thing.

I say this as a bake in a record temperature highs

Same here, and all over Europe I assume.

We’ll at some point be under another Hosepipe ban and in drought conditions again. I wonder if any of our water is diverted for AI cooling in the UK?

Well, you could always ask AI. But then most likely get an evasive answer, thereby denying its negative impact on our life: power consumption, massive need of water, sometimes misleading answers, future “brain damage” etc.

Remember how much humans need to drink and use for their food! As soon as there are only a handful of oligarch owners and the support staff of people left to keep the machines running and buying things from each other there won’t be any need for us ‘little people’, so all the water can go to fill the swimming pools of the wealthy and powerful and cooling the data centers. The rest of us can just…

Apparently every Google search now uses Generative AI as standard.

There’s no hope for us.

It would only see bad behavior half the time, or get it wrong quite often and harass members when it is unwarranted. Every AI entry page warns AI makes mistakes. Currently it seems 50% of it’s answers are wrong or don’t actually answer the question asked.

It would be a nightmare and them we’d have to moderate the AI moderation. No thanks.

About ten years ago, I believe I ran into issues involving an AI or an expert system. I had requested refunds for several consecutive digital items, an action that was flagged as suspicious or potentially fraudulent. It was an absurd and unlawful situation. I struggled to get employees to acknowledge the problem because they lacked the authorization to intervene in the system. I kept hitting a wall until a manager recognized the absurdity of the situation and rectified it—though the resolution was not immediate.

Today, AI is undergoing extraordinary development. Its level of analysis and language comprehension is incredible. We experimented with translating a book chapter, and the result was 99% the level of quality of a professional (human) translator. It seems inevitable to me that forum service providers will widely adopt AI for moderation and offer this capability to their clients.

I haven’t experienced AI managing a forum (though there does seem to be an experimental forum for AI agents…), but when it comes to dialogue or analyzing a text, a letter, AI is capable of correcting the style and moderating or adjusting the tone—in short, it displays great subtlety, and the error rate I observe (in these contexts) is virtually non-existent.

I had my Mac proofread a document the other day. It didn’t go well. It perceived “LCs” as a spelling error that it couldn’t correct or process and had a complete melt down. Some of the other “corrected” text became unreadable as a consequence. In the past I have used the rewrite option, which it definitely did, as it reversed the intentions expressed in the sentence.

No, I wouldn’t trust AI without a high level of human supervision.

As it happens, my mishap was with the iTunes Store… : )

So, was it Apple Intelligence? I don’t think it’s very reliable at the moment. I was referring more to ChatGPT.

Agree with you, prior to the deletion. Insanity.

It was a good post. Maybe an AI in the chain didn’t like the contents…

I’m just going to express my personal opinion here. I think one of the appeals to this specific forum is that you are likely to get a response from a human. Granted, that comes with some potential issues… humans have bad days and can vent or act inappropriately, but that’s what being human is. Good with the bad. Real life, etc, etc, etc…

I believe there is probably a way to teach up an ai tool to answer questions based on existing and available information so it could answer specific how-to questions, but when I come to a community forum, I want to ask members of the community for help or input…

Can there be a version of 3D basecamp run by AI for only AI to attend?
