Shadows from edges does not work with SketchUp's new graphics engine

Shadows from edges does not work with SketchUp’s new graphics engine.
When switching back to the old graphics engine, it works correctly.

Thank you for the upcoming fix.

uhhh… on a mac, with the new engine. and funny enough, the exact same shadow parameters.
main difference is that I’m in Sonoma still, and you’re on Tahoe.
edit : also, obviously, the style. I just checked, no difference caused by style

here try my file. and share yours, so we can see if it’s file or machine related

shadows nab.skp (136.7 KB)

Not working here either.
New engine, Sequoia something.
Latest SKP.

Hi,

Same problem on Windows, but it works if you disable fast shadows.

On Mac you can edit this line in PrivatePreferenes.json:

"UseFasterShadows": false,

That makes edge shadows work.

I am asking the team if there is a fix being worked on.

ah, off course, I did that

the other day when Colin mentioned it, and I completely forgot to reverse it.

that’s why.

I really hope that someday soon we have Mac / PC parity in UI, UX and settings / etc.

I found out that in implementing the new fast shadows that on large models the frame rate could drop by 50% if shadows from edges was turned on. So, it not working is intentional.

There will be a time when Mac has the option in the UI as well.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge.

I wonder what happens with TIG’s Shadow Projector — don’t have it installed at the moment to test. My guess is it won’t help, but you never know. See @eric-s YouTube video for a demo.
