Hi -
I want my models to have correct shadows, so I assume my process should be;
1 open a new model from template and geolocate it.
2 set the axis of my building / site
3 start modelling
but…
the axis won’t ‘stick’. What am i doing wrong? I’ve set the axis and made a simple block of my building as a group. The axes inside that group are correctly saved to my site. But if I close the group and try and move it, it moves along the file’s original axes, not along my new axes.
Can I reset the ‘global’ axes of the file to align with my site?
while I appreciate you responding so quickly, I’d prefer advice, rather than a link! I’ve already read that article, and obviously I’ve missed something. It says I can reset the axes to their original location by right clicking reset. I dont need to do that - It resets itself.
You need to set the global axes (not the group axis) and perhaps, if you have scene(s) you need to update scene(s)
ah! I hadn’t realised the axes were view dependant. I assumed that changing the axes meant changing the axes, rather than changing the axes for that view!
My project templates have different scenes set up in advance for plans, elevations and sections. I guess i need to delete all these and make new ones for each project.
You may need just to place the axes in a relevant scene(s) and update that scene(s)

it is similar to the UCS system in autocad and allows you to store / load different axes setup
