I would like to set up SketchUp School as the school admin for one teacher and a group of 7-8 students (all have M365-licence).
Before proceeding with the setup, I have a few questions:
Platform Compatibility
Is SketchUp School exclusively browser-based?
We primarily use iPads and MacBooks, with a stronger focus on iPads. I noticed there is an app available on the Apple Store—does it provide full functionality?
Teacher & Student Management
Is it possible to create a class where the teacher can view and manage student projects?
Hi @noah.eichenberger, thanks for the post. I’ll try and answer your questions in a single post but if I miss anything please feel free to let me know and I’ll try again.
First up, SketchUp for Schools is indeed, 100% browser based. It is designed to work exclusivly with laptops and desktops. iPads may be able to load the app via a web browser but it is not supported and therefor not recommended.
Second, we do offer an iPad version via the app store. That app has a free trial, but will require an active subscription after that. While you are welcome to purchase a subscription for your teachers and students, that can get expensive.
Third, the iPad app offers a lot of functionality and is on par with the web app but does lack some features found in our professional level offering. Most people will find that it suits their need for a mobile way to make adjustments to a SketchUp file. The only major features that the iPad lacks is the ability to run extensions, but then again, the web version lacks that too so you should be just fine.
Finally, for classroom management, we don’t actually handle any student data. All projects that the students create are saved via either Google or Microsoft so if you can access the student files via that, you are all set to go!
If you have any additional questions or if I didn’t answer things sufficiently please feel free to let me know via the @ command in another post in this thread.
