Scan to Design Discussion

How many other people are using Scan to Design? I’d like to know successes or struggles with it.

So far my experience is not that successful, but I’m trying to find a useful groove for it’s use.

Here’s an issue I just experienced: Why is the mesh rotated from the objects created. I see now sense to it.

I use in intermittently, works OK. Better I think than when it was first introduced. I have not had the rotated problem. In honesty I use it mostly for organic shapes so I don’t often use the generated wall geometry feature, and my use is often “close enough”. Here is a real world scan with the model.

I only use it to take a quick note of the space. I have yet to have any success with getting it to be more useful than “oh… there’s an outlet there…”

Sometimes the mesh is rotated, sometimes the actual building geometry is, I usually just take my own measurements and model from those and double check the mesh when I need to know why there weren’t cabinets on one wall (electrical panel) or some such similar

Here’s a floor plan with two versions superimposed: One generated by Scan to Design for the entire floor, and one done the manual way by measuring and modeling. Doing a single room at a time is a little better.
